Zac Efron is officially in talks to join Paramount’s BAYWATCH feature. He will join Dwayne Johnson in the adaptation for the hit television series, which ran from 1989 to 2001.
Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon was announced to direct in July. Damien Shannon and Mark Swift have penned the latest iteration of the script, and Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman will produce.
The story follows a veteran lifeguard, set to be played by Johnson, who is forced to team up with a younger lifeguard in order to save the beach from an denvironmental disaster.
While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, it is rumored that the studio is leaning towards a comedic take. Efron certainly has experience in that space, having starred in last year’s surprise hit Neighbors. He will also appear in 2016’s Fox comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, alongside Adam DeVine, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza. He will flex his dramatic muscles in the upcoming DJ drama We Are Your Friends, bowing August 28th (watch the trailer here).
Efron is repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment.
