Zack Snyder took to twitter to reveal Jason Momoa’s new appearance as Aquaman. Since Momoa’s casting, there has been speculation as to what kind spin that the filmmakers would be taking on the classic character. Aquaman has, of late, been the butt of jokes from comics fans and in the media.
Snyder has clearly gone in the other direction with the character, attempting to make the character look as threatening and powerful as possible. And also as far away from the character’s actual look as it can be.
Snyder tweeted the picture with the line: There is only one true King. #unitetheseven
My money is that the seven he’s referring to are the Justice League. We’ll see Momoa make his first splash next year in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
There are things to like about the costume. The armor is cool and the trident is definitely awesome. But is it too much to ask for just a little bit of color? I’ve grown incredibly exhausted with the desaturated, muted look to these characters. They don’t feel like superheroes, they look like the cast of 300…which Snyder also directed. Oh wait, why was he allowed to steer the DC Comics Cineverse again?
Wonder Woman also employs the same drab, boring, and colorless outfit. She looks more like Xena: Warrior Princess than the classic super-heroine everyone knows and loves. At this rate, Batman’s outfit will end up having the most color to it. Here’s a fan mock-up of what Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman look like together.
This just looks so depressing. This is a movie about superheroes? Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice bows March 25, 2016.
