The cast for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH is starting to take shape and Zendaya is the latest actor in talks to board the big top musical biopic based on the life of P.T. Barnum, the mastermind behind the iconic three ring Barnum & Bailey Circus.
The Disney Channel star would portray a trapeze artist and join Hugh Jackman, who is set to play Barnum. Zac Efron is in talks to play Barnum’s right hand man, while Michelle Williams is circling the role of Jackman’s love interest.
Michael Gracey is attached to direct, with a script written by Michael Arndt. Previous drafts of the screenplay were written by Jenny Bicks, Bill Condon, and Jonathan Topper. Original songs for the musical were written by Tony Award-nominated songwriting duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who contributed original songs to the DreamWorks animated feature Trolls.
Zendaya currently stars in Disney’s K.C. Undercover and is attached to star opposite Tom Holland in the forthcoming Sony-Marvel collabo Spider-Man: Homecoming.
