The Launch Pad Manuscript Competition Presents…
Title: DEADLEGS
Logline: In the 1970s, a young fisherman struggles not only with proving himself against two of his shipmates, his more physically imposing brother and the father of his girlfriend’s unborn child, but the elements themselves as they battle ruthless waters in Arctic winter.
Pitch: THE FINEST HOURS meets DEADLIEST CATCH
Writer: Cardy O’Donnell
Genre: Action | Drama
Why to Read: A character-driven drama heightened by the contained setting of the fishing boat, this manuscript is a master class in subtle tension. The set up forces the protagonist to confront his rivals while working alongside them, and it’s incredibly effective. Add to that the fact that they are all attempting an illegal fishing activity and the tension becomes palpable. The writing is dynamic and descriptive, painting a vivid picture, while the regional dialogue is pitch perfect, and the plot moves along at a perfect pace. The characters and relationships are intensely layered, in part due to the flashbacks effortlessly integrated into the high stakes action on the boat. With life and death stakes, the difference between failure and success teetering on a knife’s edge, and love and friendship being closely examined, this manuscript is as intense as it can get.
