Pitch: DIVERGENT meets MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN
Writer: Amanda Keener
Genre: Drama | Supernatural | Young Adult
Why to Read: This is a very cool premise, as it takes familiar beats from X-MEN but adds in its own unique elements. This really is familiar idea that comes at the problem from a completely new and interesting angle, which is hard to do. The sinister edge to The Academy is in line with other, popular YA fare, and it’s so easy to see this as the start to a series, as well as a movie franchise or hit TV show. The mystery is set up well from the beginning, and the scenes are cinematic and engrossing. There is a lot here for young adults to relate to, as it deals with being in high school and feeling different from everyone else. Anyone interested in the next YA franchise has everything they need here.
