The Launch Pad Manuscript Competition Presents…
Title: FAST FORWARD
Logline: After being captured by the Nazis, an LAPD detective fighting in World War II wakes up in 1985 Los Angeles not having aged a day and with no memory of how he got there. He must work with his now elderly friends and family in an attempt to get back to where he belongs.
Pitch: CAPTAIN AMERICA meets LIFE ON MARS
Writer: Elizabeth Stevens & James Bruner
Genre: Action | Drama | Sci-Fi
Why to Read: A lively and engaging action manuscript with fun and interesting twists and turns. The story creates tension through the central mystery of how and why McCain ends up in 1985. This is a wonderful aspect to the story, because for once in a time travel story, the protagonist is just as lost and confused as the audience. This creates an easy bond between the reader and the protagonist that only gets stronger as the story continues and we learn even more about him. In addition, the “fish out of water” twist a la, BACK TO THE FUTURE or CAPTAIN AMERICA provides a lot of fun and comic relief to a story that could have easily been all too serious. McCain has such a strong determination to stay alive that you easily believe it when he gets himself out of sticky situations by sheer will power alone. With a strong lead character, interesting premise, and unique take on the time traveler tale, this will fit right into any sci-fi adventure library.
