Pitch: | THE WALKING DEAD meets DEADLIEST CATCH |
Writer: | Hampton Flint |
Genre: | Sci-Fi | Young Adult |
Why to Read: | This manuscript does the impossible _ creating a dystopian YA world that feels completely fresh, original, and believable. The story is perfect in its simplicity, an aquatic spin on the dystopian road trip movie. There’s no overload of new terminology or useless novelties to make the world seem cool, instead this manuscript does more with less and places us in a world that feels so natural, so close to our own, that there’s no distance between us and the fantastic lead. Stevie is a great protagonist with clear motivations and weaknesses, and whose drive to help her family is endlessly relatable. The stakes are high, the writing is packed with action, and the insect-like monsters are original and terrifying. The next big YA franchise that will have the same effect as watching JAWS – you will want to stay out of the water. |
