The Rise (And Hopeful Decline) Of The Movie Ticket Price

Collider wrote a very interesting piece regarding the rising price of the movie ticket. As the article pointed out, ticket prices reached their peak in a span of years from 1967-1978 (inflation taken into consideration), however, the 2013 average movie ticket currently costs $8.16, 73 cents higher than the average ticket price over the past 32 years.

What I find most interesting is that the bread-and-butter of the entertainment industry, assistants, often find themselves struggling to see as many films in the theaters as they would like considering the average assistant’s salary. It would be nice if the people in these positions could enjoy the fruits of their labor, but with some theaters running upwards of $20 for a ticket, this isn’t so much the case. With the decline of mom-and-pop theaters across the country, the larger (and more expensive) theater chains such as AMC, Regal and Pacific Theaters, complete with their offerings of 3D movies and swanky seating arraignments, are becoming the go-to establishment to catch the latest blockbusters.

Feel free to discuss if your movie-going experience has been impacted by the rising price of tickets.
