Earlier this year, Ewan McGregor said he was open to doing an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off movie in the Star Wars universe. In an interview with Collider, he said, “I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”

Alone in the desert for twenty or thirty years? Hmmm. Could it be that one of his most recent films, Last Days in the Desert is not a story about Jesus wandering the desert and his struggle with the Devil (both roles played by Mcgregor), but a veiled attempt to give us the stripped-down standalone, character-driven Obi-Wan movie we’ve all been waiting for? Like me, cinematographer Rich Williamson seems to think so and he cobbled together a trailer titled Kenobi: A Star Wars Story to prove it.

OK, it may not be the Obi-Wan movie that you were picturing, but it’s pretty darn close.
