WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (08.18.14) – Turtles Stay on Top
0It was a good second weekend at the box office for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” which took the top spot with just over $28 million, just barely beating its second place rival “Guardians of the Galaxy” in its third weekend. As for the newbies, Fox’s comedy “Let’s Be Cops” came away on top, ranking third overall with $17.7 million for the weekend but $26.1 million overall (it opened on Wednesday), while “The Expendables 3” took in just a bit less with $16.2 million. Although crowds turned out for “The Giver,” it only managed a fifth place spot with $12.7 million.
Up next weekend, The Weinstein Company and Dimension comes out with crime thriller “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” while Warner Bros. brings YA drama “If I Stay” to theaters. I’m predicting “Sin City” will take the top spot next weekend, especially after even a small audience turned out for the “Expendables” sequel this past weekend. However, YA dramas have been making a good show this summer with “The Fault in Our Stars” showing up the normal action fare a few months back. Looks like it’s anyone’s game…
