Weekend Box Office (12.01.14) — “Mockingjay” Gobbles Up the Competition
0by: Madelyn Glymour | Contributor
To the surprise of no one, really, Mockingjay maintained its stranglehold on the #1 spot over the Thanksgiving weekend. Still, even with the competition to consider, new releases Penguins of Madagascar and Horrible Bosses 2 underperformed, especially the latter, which came in fifth overall, beaten out by Interstellar in its fourth week. Penguins‘ competition in the animated family movie genre, Big Hero 6, maintained a healthy audience in its fourth week, landing it squarely in third.
There are no wide releases this weekend (The Pyramid will fall just short, opening in 550 theaters), so expect the top five to stay fairly steady until the 19th. For more detailed predictions, check in on Thursday for our official projections!
