Amazon Acquires Spec “This Is Jane” About Chicago Abortion Service

The Tracking Board has confirmed that acquired the spec by in a six-figure deal. The project is based on ’s book The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service published in 1995.

The story is focused on an underground Chicago abortion service founded and run by a woman from 1968 to 1973, the years leading up to the groundbreaking Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which granted the right of privacy to women about the decision to have an abortion under the Due Process Clause. About the project, Kaplan said, “Twenty years after the book’s publication, and more than 40 years after the events it recounts, Jane’s history is more important now than ever.  It tells the true story of what women were willing to do to help other women.”

Given the current political climate of the country, specifically regarding health, reproductive rights, and women’s rights, this is a timely project for Amazon and is sure to ignite conversation.

John Lesher’s Le Grisbi Productions will develop the film and Peter Heller, who developed the script with Loflin, will produce. Loflin will also executive produce. Sean Murphy will oversee for Le Grisbi.
