Bluegrass Films principal Dylan Clark, the Planet of the Apes producer who is in talks to reteam with Matt Reeves on The Batman, will produce Gears of War. Universal optioned the movie rights to the iconic video game franchise last year. Universal’s Jon Mone, Bluegrass Films’ Jay Ireland and Xbox’s Marc Sachnoff will oversee the project for their respective companies.
I may not have grown up playing Gears of War, but it boasts more than 45 million players worldwide, who have generated more than $1 billion in sales. Microsoft acquired the Gears of War series in 2014 and launched The Coalition, a development studio focused exclusively on the popular franchise.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition, a remake of the landmark original, was recently released for Xbox One and Windows 10, which also debuted Gears of War 4 last October.
Salerno’s writing credits include the four upcoming Avatar sequels, which begin shooting this August, as well as Michael Bay’s Armageddon and Oliver Stone’s Savages. Salerno is also writing and producing The Cartel for 20th Century Fox and producer Ridley Scott, who hopes to start shooting the crime drama in January. He’s represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
