Disney-owned Freeform is entering the late-night landscape with TRUTH & ILIZA hosted by Iliza Shlesinger. The series is getting a six-week run start May 2 at 10 p.m. on the network and its digital platforms.
Each episode will center on a theme question that the host will try to answer using audience interaction, field pieces, commentary and, of course, jokes.
“I’m so grateful to Freeform for inviting me to create a show that occupies a space between social commentary, politics, pop culture, and my specific brand of comedy and feminism,” said Shlesinger. “This show will inform, entertain, and it’s a great excuse to get a spray tan.”
Shlesinger will executive produce with Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, David Martin, Kim Gamble, and Kara Baker.
The comedian recently finished a national stand-off tour and has a book debut in the fall. She also created and stars in Forever 31, a digital series on ABCd, which was recently renewed for a second season.
Freeform is the latest to join the late-night landscape after other networks have found success during the political climate. TBS has had several late-night series but it’s been Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal that as really become a standout. Chelsea Handler, a stand-up who is a veteran of late-night television, has also been praised for her new series, Chelsea, on Netflix.
She is repped by APA and Avalon Management.
