“Friends From College” Trailer Hints at a Breakout Hit for Netflix Amid Summer Comedy Drought (Video)

Netflix has released the first official trailer for its new original comedy series , and with Keegan-Michael Key and Fred Savage leading the ensemble, it’s safe to say the streaming service can count me in.

I suspect I won’t be alone, given the laughter drought on TV this summer, when my favorite network comedy shows (The Goldbergs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mick, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are all on hiatus. With no Hangover-sized comedy tickling the world’s funny bone on the big screen, audiences starved for smiles may turn to Netflix for a quick pick-me-up.

Hailing from the husband-and-wife team of Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the eight-episode series follows a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties while experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both personally and professionally. Old friendships and former romantic entanglements are explored as the characters balance their adult lives with nostalgia for the past.

Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon and Jae Suh Park co-star in the series, which also features Billy Eichner in a recurring role — another way to get me interested in, oh, just about anything.

So get ready to act your age this summer, because Friends from College debuts July 14 on Netflix.
