Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank is taking her talent to the small screen. She is set to join Donald Sutherland in FX’s 10-episode limited series TRUST from the Oscar-winning trio of Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy, and Christian Colson.
Set in 1973, the series will follow the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the heir to the Getty oil fortune. The mafia who kidnapped him expected a multi-million dollar ransom — but getting him back proved to be difficult. The Italian police thought the ordeal was a prank and refused to investigate, his heroin addict father refused to answer the phone, and his grandfather was busy on his Tudor mansion with his pet lion and five mistresses. Swank is set to star as Gail Getty, the only person left to negotiate with the captors. She is determined and resourceful mother. She may not have the money o pay the ransom, but remains committed to helping her son as she navigates tricky familial waters.
Boyle will direct the script by Beaufoy. They will also serve as executive producers alongside Christian Colson. FX Productions, Cloud Eight Films, Decibel Films, and Snicket Films Limited will produce.
This is not Swank’s first foray into television. She appeared in many TV series early in her career including Growing Pains and Beveryly Hills 90210. She has since appeared in several acclaimed TV movies such as Mary and Martha and Iron Jawed Angels. She can be seen next on the big screen in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky opposite Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as well as 55 Steps opposite Helena Bonham Carter and Jeffrey Tambor.
