There are plenty of “cabin in the woods” movies out in the world so if you’re going to make another one, it sure as hell better be fresh and original. Based on the new trailer for IT COMES AT NIGHT, written and directed by Trey Edward Shults, the horror-thriller follows in the footsteps of Drew Goddard’s subversive The Cabin in the Woods, adding a twist to the genre.
Starring Joel Edgerton, Riley Keough, Christopher Abbott, and Carmen Ejogo, the trailer for the film from the Krisha director gives you a perfect tease of what to expect. It doesn’t fall into the trap of “let’s tell the entire story in 2 minutes” that many trailers fall into — especially with a lot of horror pics.
What we know is that there has been some sort of apocalyptic worldwide event and Edgerton’s character is a new kind of survivalist living in the woods with his family and a young couple (Abbott and Keough) and their child — but there is also a mysterious being outside that, as the title suggests, only comes out a night. Even so, with all the flashes of dramatic cuts, chilling music, and people vomiting black stuff, not all is what it seems inside and outside of the cabin.
