Keke Palmer has been set as the lead of MTV’s third season of SCREAM, with RJ Cyler, Jessica Sula, Giorgia Whigham and Giullian Yao Gioiello also cast, the network announced Wednesday.
Palmer, who is coming off of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, will play Kym, described as a rebel with a thousand causes, who is a bold and beautiful social activist with a big heart and zero patience for suffering fools. When Kym and her friends find themselves hunted by a killer, she works to flip the script and survive at any cost.
Cyler will play Deion, a star running back for the high school football team who hopes to secure a college football scholarship that will take him far away from Atlanta, a plan that seems destined to fail when he becomes the target of a masked killer with ties to his past.
Sula plays Liv, the new girl at school while Whigham will play Beth, the school’s resident Goth, while Gioiello will play Manny, openly gay and loyal to a fault.
Previous cast members include Tyga as Deion’s step-brother and CJ Wallace as good kid Amir.
Brett Matthews will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the rebooted series, with Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty also serving as EPs for Flavor Unit Entertainment. Harvey and Bob Weinstein Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad are also EPs.
Scream is officially becoming an anthology series with its third season after the first two seasons followed the same storyline. It’s part of the new direction for MTV’s scripted programming which coincides with the long-running Teen Wolf ending and The Shannara Chronicles moving to Paramount Network.
