Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Alexander Payne’s new movie Downsizing, which opened the Venice Film Festival and has played Telluride and Toronto in the past couple weeks.
Payne’s new film is centered around a scientific breakthrough innovation where people can be shrunk down to a fraction of their normal size in order to take up less space and consume less. This is being done in hopes of saving the world from over-population.
Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig play a normal couple from Nebraska who decide to change their lives by “getting small,” though things don’t exactly go as planned, leaving one of them trying to figure out what to do with their new smaller life.
Editor in Chief Jeff Sneider wasn’t a fan, and reviews have been mixed positive so far, but Downsizing will open nationwide on Dec. 22 if you want to decide for yourself if Payne’s foray into a possible future is for you.
