After having numerous supporting roles in comedies and dramas like Reno 911, Scream Queens, and the highly undervalued Getting On, the talented Niecy Nash is finally getting the chance to topline her own show. In TNT’s CLAWS Nash plays Desna, the owner of a nail salon who, along with her badass staff, get involved in the gritty and crazy crime world of South Florida.
Joining Nash in the dramedy is an impressive roster of talent including Carrie Preston, Harold Perrineau, Jenn Lyon, Judy Reyes, Jack Kesy, Karrueche Tran, Kevin Rankin and Jason Antoon. With Rashida Jones as an executive producer, Janine Sherman Barrois (Criminal Minds) as showrunner, and a trailer drenched in Floridian panache, it seems like this might be a hit for TNT.
Nash is destined to slay as usual (and how could she not with all that look?) and the supporting and amazingly diverse cast — specifically True Bood alum Preston — will add some more fuel to the fire. The show immediately gives off the vibe of Weeds — which is totally welcome. And the fact that everything is set in a Florida nail salon (a swanky subculture that hasn’t been portrayed on TV — as far as I know) makes this show required viewing — and with a nail salon called the Nail Artisan of Manatee County how can it not be? With its look, premise and Nash at the forefront, I suspect that Claws will spawn many theme parties for years to come.
