The Launch Pad Pilots Competition Presents…
Title: PIONEER VILLAGE
Logline: An ambitious young man tries to save his father’s failing historical heritage museum when a flashier 19th Century theme park opens next door.
Pitch: PARKS AND RECREATION meets WESTWORLD
Writer: Greg Wayne
Genre: Comedy
Why to Read: While a series focused on running a historical amusement park has a ton of potential on its own, evoking the dysfunctional ensemble formula of SUPERSTORE or COMMUNITY, the writer smartly complicates things further by having a rival park open just across town. A natural fountain of conflict, hilarity, and plot – this rivalry is an effective driving force for the story, and just one of the many sources of consistent, idiosyncratic humor in the pilot. Despite the wacky, over-the-top nature of the hilarious story, this pilot always feels grounded due to the well-written and emotional father-son storyline at the center. The protagonist, a young man who left his family behind and is now coming back to help with the business he always hated, is the kind of character who can easily anchor a series.
