Rachel Griffiths and Kathy Baker are the latest thesps joining John Lee Hancock’s fact-based film SAVING MR. BANKS.
The story centers on Walt Disney’s (Tom Hanks) fourteen year effort to convince “Mary Poppins” author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) to sell him the big screen rights to the book. Griffiths will play Travers’ aunt, who ultimately served as the inspiration for the Poppins character and Baker will play one of Disney’s associates. Also starring in the film are Colin Farrell, Ruth Wilson, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, BJ Novak and Bradley Whitford.
Alison Owen and Ian Collie will produce for Ruby films.
Aussie thesp Griffiths got her start in the 1995 rom-come “Muriel’s Wedding” and has since starred in “Me Myself and I”, “Step Up” and most recently, “Burning Man”. She is repped by Markham, Froggatt & Irwin, Shanahan Management and WME.
Baker is coming off “Take Shelter” and the whale-rescue pic “Big Miracle”. She is currently in development on the drama film “Daybreak”. She is repped by Paradigm.
