Sony Pictures is in talks to acquire the rights to adapt CATAN, the board game also known as The Settlers of Catan into a film.
Gail Katz, who is known for Pawn Sacrifice, The Perfect Storm, and Air Force One will produce.
Dan Lin, whose credits include It and The Lego Movie will join the producing team, along with Jonathan Eirich. Blaise Hemingway will write the screenplay. Overseeing the project for Columbia is Andrea Gianetti.
Sony is fast-tracking the project with the goal of launching a possible franchise.
The game was designed by Klaus Teuber and has sold more than 25 million copies in 38 languages. When the game was first created in 1995, game critics in Germany awarded Catan with its game of the year award.
