SUITS stars Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle are poised to exit the show after the show’s Season 7 finale. If the show is renewed for an eighth season, it would go on without the characters of Mike and Rachel.
A rep for the show did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
According to THR, a Season 8 of Suits is looking likely, but Adams and Markle, like the rest of the cast, are signed only through Season 7.
The news comes as showrunner Aaron Korsh is developing a potential spinoff series revolving around Gina Torres’ character Jessica Pearson, set in the world of Chicago politics.
The Season 7 finale is expected to serve as a backdoor pilot for the new series, with Rebecca Rittenhouse and Morgan Spector joining the cast and making their first appearances in that episode.
Torres left Suits in the middle of Season 6 but returned for the finale and will return again in the Season 7 finale. A similar model could be in place for Adams, whose college-dropout-turned-lawyer Mike Ross working for Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter despite never passing the bar was the catalyst for the show’s premise.
Markle is also an original cast member and her character Rachel is engaged to Mike, with the wedding set to unfold later in the season.
Suits is currently on winter hiatus in the midst of its seventh season. New episodes will resume in 2018 on USA.
