Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in Universal’s upcoming romantic comedy THE GAUNTLET. The film, which was written by Dana Fox, and which she will produce alongside Scott Stuber, centers on a woman whose horrible relationship history puts her friends on the defensive when she finally meets the perfect man, and they put him through a series of tests in order to win her heart and prove himself.
Uni picked up the pitch from Fox in July with a plan to move aggressively towards production. By attaching Hathaway just a month later the studio is committing to those plans, and is looking for another writer to come in to craft a rewrite for her specifically.
Hathaway, who has continually managed to mix genres throughout her career, was most recently seen in the Chris Nolan action/epic sendoff “The Dark Knight Returns” and will follow that with Uni’s period drama “Les Misérables”. In staying with her plan, of the dozen films she currently has in development, Hathaway has a handful of thrillers, dramas and comedies spanning the Karl Gajdusek thriller “Puzzler”, the romantic drama “Song One” and the rom/com “The Opposite of Love”.
