{Things We Love} Joss Whedon Shares His Thoughts on Writing

It seems like only yesterday that Joss Whedon was the beloved but decidedly niche creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. Then The Avengers dropped in 2012, and suddenly he was the writer and director of one of the most lucrative movies of all time. Having proven that he can successfully write both critically acclaimed niche television shows and massively popular superhero movies, Whedon probably has a lot of worthwhile things to say about writing.

And he said some of them last month, at a roundtable hosted by Lily Cole, creator of the “giving and receiving” app Impossible. A lot of writers talking about their craft can be needlessly specific and restrictive, or at least boring, but Whedon — unsurprisingly — has some interesting, unusual things to say about screenwriting.
