USA has ordered to series an adaptation of AMERICAN RUST, based on the novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer.
The series comes from Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman, the co-creators behind AMC’s adaptation of Meyer’s novel The Son, which has already been renewed for a second season.
The book followed a pair of teenage best friends who dreamed of leaving their small Pennsylvania town, but are caught up in a violent event that changes their lives forever.
It appears USA may be taking a different approach to the story, with the official logline for the series describing it as set in “a small Pennsylvania rust belt town and explores the rise and fall of a crime-riddled community as seen through the eyes of a sheriff with a history of violence.”
McGreevy, Shipman and Meyer wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producers, along with David Gordon Green, who is attached to direct the first episode, and super producer Michael De Luca.
American Rust is a co-production between Platform One Media and Universal Cable Productions.
