Alan Cumming is the latest actor to join the growing cast of the Billie Jean King biopic BATTLE OF THE SEXES, which will focus on the groundbreaking 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match between King and Bobby Riggs.
Cumming’s role hasn’t been revealed but reports are saying that he may play Ted Tinling, an openly gay tennis player who helped King come out about her sexuality and also designed her “Battle of the Sexes” dress. Emma Stone is set to to play King while Steve Carell will play Riggs. The film also stars Andrea Riseborough, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Silverman, and Austin Stowell.
Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are set to direct the script written by Simon Beaufoy. Danny Boyle will produce through his Decibel Films alongside Cloud Eight’s Christian Colson.
Cumming is known for his Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated role on the CBS drama The Good Wife. He voiced Gutsy Smurf in Smurfs 2 and can be seen next in the upcoming indie comedy Hurricane Bianca with Rachel Dratch, RuPaul and Margaret Cho.
