After finding success with alternate universe drama Man in the High Castle, Amazon is hoping lightning will strike with a second alternate universe series, this one from Aaron McGruder and Will Packer. Plot details on the untitled series are currently being kept under wraps.
McGruder is best known for creating the animated television series The Boondocks, which won him a Peabody Award, and the live-action comedy series Black Jesus. Boondocks began as a comic strip on Hitlist.com. It featured two young African American brothers, Huey and Riley, who move from the inner-city Chicago to the home of their grandfather in a quiet suburb.
The comic strip, and later Adult Swim series, often drew controversy fo regularly taking jabs at targets such as BET, Condoleezza Rice, Whitney Houston, Bill Cosby, and conservative commentator Larry Elder. McGruder’s skills with social commentary pair well with the concept of an alternate universe and his fearlessness to target those others may call heroes give this new series the potential to make big waves in the current political climate.
