Well, it’s official – Channing Tatum will star in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE as Gambit with a solo spin-off film to follow. Channing has been angling to play Gambit for a while now, having stated that it’s his favorite X-Men character. Gambit has long been part of the X-Men crew in the comic series, able to mentally create, control and manipulate kinetic energy to conform to his every whim. He is also incredibly skilled in card-throwing and hand-to-hand combat, though his weapon of choice is a bō. The character was most recently played by Taylor Kitsch in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
Tatum is known for his action roles in the “G.I. Joe” series of films and “White House Down” but also for his comedic turns in “21 Jump Street” and “This Is The End” which could help him strike the perfect balance of serious stunts and comic relief he’ll need for “X-Men.” Tatum is staying busy, appearing in upcoming projects like “Jupiter Ascending” and reprising his roles for “22 Jump Street” and “Magic Mike XXL.” He is also rumored to be making his directorial debut with revenge drama “The Son,” an adaptation of the Jo Nesbø book.
