Alex Gibney is taking a break from documentaries to direct his first narrative feature, THE ACTION. The Lionsgate political thriller set in the 1970s follows eight anti-war activists that stole classified FBI documents and later made them public revealing that J. Edgar Hoover created a campaign to spy and blackmail troublemakers.
Scott Z. Burns has been tapped to write the script with Michael Sugar and Meredith Milton of Anonymous Content producing alongside Participant Media. Ashley Zalta of Anonymous will serve as executive producer.
Gibney made waves for his Emmy Award-winning controversial documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. He also directed, produced, and wrote equally captivating docs including We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks and Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine.
He is repped by UTA.
