Ready Player One star Olivia Cooke and The Witch breakout Anya Taylor-Joy have joined Green Room actor Anton Yelchin in THOROUGHBRED, an indie drama from producers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. Cory Finley adapted the script from his own play, and is set to make his feature film directorial debut. The Tracking Board first broke news of the project earlier this month.
The story is described as a suburban noir about a star student home from her elite boarding school, a young equestrian shunned after injuring her horse, and dirty dealings in a gleaming new McMansion.
Cooke, who is set to appear in Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated Ready Player One, is perhaps best known for her role on A&E’s popular drama series, Bates Motel. She also appeared in the Sundance hit Me and Earl and The Dying Girl and the horror pic, Oujia. She’ll next be seen in Katie Says Goodbye alongside Mireille Enos and Christopher Abbot.
Taylor-Joy stunned audiences with her performance in the critically acclaimed, intensely atmospheric period horror The Witch. She recently wrapped on the buzzed-about Barack Obama biopic Barry and the thriller Morgan, opposite Kate Mara from Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox. She has also recently completed filming a leading role in M.Night Shylaman’s next thriller Split alongside James McAvoy, due for release in 2017. Anya is also confirmed to star in Huntsville, from a 2014 Hit List and Black List script.
Production on Thoroughbred is expected to begin next month in Boston.
