With Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on board to direct Marvel Studios’ March 2019 release, Captain Marvel, and Brie Larson starring, a new writer was bound to be brought in for rewrites and that new writer is Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman wrote a previous draft of the script with Inside Out co-writer Meg LaFeuve doing rewrites, but LaFeuve had to move onto her Disney animated film, Gigantic, which she’s also co-directing.
Robertson-Dworet’s previous credits include MGM and Warner Bros’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, starring Alicia Vikander, and the planned Suicide Squad spin-off Gotham City Sirens, also for Warner Bros. Being hired by Marvel Studios will essentially put the screenwriter on both sides of the Marvel vs. DC “aisle.”
Two of Robertson-Dworet’s screenplays have been on the prestigious Black List with the most recent one, Ares, being picked up by MGM for Anna Foerster (Underworld: Blood Wars) to direct.
Disney has set March 8, 2019 as the release date for Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel.
