David Oyelowo has signed on for the lead role in ANOTHER DAY IN THE DEATH OF AMERICA. The film is based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Gary Younge.
The true story centers on the writer who investigated the death of 10 children shot on a random day in America. The national news did not pick up the story, meaning that it was just another day in America where children and teens are killed by guys daily. In his investigation, Younge picked a random day (November 23, 2013) and sought out the families of the children who died that day and tells the stories of how they lived. The book is set to be published in September in the UK by Guardian Faber and on October 4 in US by Nation Books.
Film and life rights to the book were acquired by the Allegiance Theater and Double E Pictures. Allegiance’s Daniel Dubecki and Lara Alameddine are producing with Oyelowo through his Yoruba Saxon Productions, and Eric Eisner of Double E Pictures. Double E also finances the feature. Tim Crane and Gary Younge will executive produce.
CAA packaged the project as they rep Allegiance, Double E, and Oyelow. Younge’s reps at Curtis Brown Group UK brokered the deal for the book.
Allegiance previously produced Money Monster, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and is waiting for release.
Oyelowo previously starred in Selma, Interstellar, and A Most Violent Year. He will next be seen in Nina and is currently circling J.J. Abrams’s God Particle.
He is repped by Hamilton Hodell in the UK and Inphenate.
