CAA hit the market with a massive package today, as Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are attached to star in BRIGHT, an action spec from Hit List alum Max Landis. If that’s not big enough, End of Watch helmer David Ayer is on board to direct. This pairs one of the industry’s hottest screenwriters with some A-List talent and a red hot director – which should all but guarantee some hefty bids from some of Hollywood’s biggest players. Landis is also attached to produce, along with Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures and Eric Newman of Arcade Films.
Landis is repped by WME and Writ Large, while CAA reps Smith, Edgerton and Ayer.
Details of the story are being kept under wraps, but we’re hearing that its a contemporary cop thriller with fantastical elements.
The prolific Landis has seen incredible success over the past few years as the screenwriter of films like Chronicle, from his 2010 Hit List script, American Ultra, and Victor Frankenstein. He is currently in development with the astronaut thriller Deeper and the period drama Houdini, based on the legendary magician.
Smith and Ayer recently wrapped on Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC, which is set to hit theaters this summer. Smith is now shooting Collateral Beauty–one of last year’s hottest spec packages–with Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley. Edgerton recently completed the sci-fi drama Midnight Special from director Jeff Nichols.
This is just now heading into studios, so we’ll keep you updated as the details roll in…
