Fantasy series outside of Game of Thrones have struggled to find an audience in recent years but that isn’t deterring Hulu who has put into development the best-selling book series Throne of Glass. The adaptation, titled QUEEN OF SHADOWS after the fourth book, will be penned by Kira Snyder, who has written for The CW’s hit post-apocalyptic series The 100, and Anna Foerster of Underworld: Blood Wars will direct the pilot.
The series follows Celaena Sardothien, a complicated female assassin with a mysterious past who only wants her freedom. Now beholden to an increasingly tyrannous king, Celaena will become a reluctant hero against the multitudes of forces that threaten to destroy her world. Along the way she will make friends, enemies, and lovers, and be wildly underestimated by all of them.
The Mark Gordon Company’s Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper executive produce with Snyder Foerster.
There are five books currently in the books series from Bloomsbury Children’s Books with a sixth in the works. The author, Sarah J. Maas, wrote the first installment in the series when she was just 16-years-old. She also wrote A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
This is Snyder and Hulu’s second collaboration with Snyder having written the upcoming series The Handmaid’s Tale. She also penned Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
Foerster has previously directed episodes of Madam Secretary.
