Originally pitched by New Girl‘s Max Greenfield, the film tells the story of an amiable English teacher (Day) challenged to an after-school fight by one of his fellow educators (Cube), who’s adamant that the other is trying to get him canned. The Tracking Board exclusively reported on the project and Day’s involvement in late April.
21 Laps Entertainment’s Shawn Levy, Billy Rosenberg, and Greenfield are producing, with Dan Cohen overseeing. Hit List and Black List Alums Evan Susser and Van Robichaux scripted the two-handed comedy. Sources reveal that New Line is actively looking for a director, with an intended start date for September.
As of late, Cube has been experiencing a resurgence in his career, appearing in breakout hit comedies 21 Jump Street and Ride Along. The rapper-turned-actor most recently produced Straight Outta Compton, the biopic about his legendary group NWA, and reprised his role in Sony’s hugely successful sequel 22 Jump Street.
Up next, he’ll return for Ride Along 2, Barbershop 3, and 23 Jump Street, as well as headline his own comedy Rocky Mountain High, based off an original idea which he sold to Universal.
He’s repped by UTA.
