Insecure’s creator and star Issa Rae has teamed up with Project Greenlight Digital Studios on comedic anthology series MINIMUM WAGE. The new project comes through Rae’s ColorCreative.TV and Greenlight’s The New Normal writing contest which seeks to find underrepresented voices in media.
The six episodes were written by Rebecca Hu, Arpita Kumar, and Maya Huston, and centers on five unique employees who work at a run-down fast food restaurant in LA’s Koreatown as they try desperately to improve its business and their own personal lives.
Rae executive produces alongside Cindy Fang and Deniese Davis. Aaron Covington is set to direct and the series cast includes John Yuan, Halleta Alemu, Gabriel Brown, Alma Delfina, and D’Lo.
For The New Normal contest, writers were asked to submit a one-page pitch for an original anthology series idea about the theme of a “trophy” and what it means to be a winner. The writer of the winning idea, and two runners-up, were partnered with a seasoned showrunner, director, and line producer to create the series.
