The upcoming pic THE PRETENDERS has taken a huge step forward after being circulated around Hollywood for the past three years. James Franco has signed on to direct the romance and up-and-coming actors Jack Kilmer, Shameik Moore, and Jane Levy have signed on to star.
Franco will direct the script from Josh Boone which tells the story of two friends in the ’80s and how they fall in love with the same girl, reating a decade spanning, very unique love story between the threesome. Brian Cox and Juno Temple are also set to star.
The project is being produced as a co-production between Franco’s Rabbit Bandini Productions, SSS Entertainment and Yale Productions. Vince Jolivette and Jay Davis at Rabbit Bandini, Shaun Sanghani at SSS Entertainment and Jordan Yale Levine, Scott Levenson from Yale Productions are producing along with Katy Leary.
Franco recently appeared in Goat, King Cobra, and starred, directed, and produced In Dubious Battle. He can be seen next in the comedy Why Him? opposite Bryan Cranston. He is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.
Kilmer recently starred in The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. His previous credits include Palo Alto and The Stanford Prison Experiment.. He can be seen in the upcoming drama Huntsville starring Sophie Turner. He is repped by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
Moore breakout role was in Rick Famuyiwa’s Dope. He recently starred in Baz Luhrmann’s epic hip-hop series The Get Down. He is repped by ICM Partners and Artistic Endeavors.
Levy starred in the reboot of Evil Dead and the recent hit Don’t Breathe. She can be seen next in the action comedy Monster Trucks with Lucas Till. She is repped by Gersh.
