Co-creator of Lost and The Leftovers Damon Lindelof is teaming with Blumhouse and Universal for a politically tinged action thriller THE HUNT, the Tracking Board has confirmed. Z for Zachariah helmer Craig Zobel is on board to direct from a script by Lindelof and Nick Cuse.
While the logline is being kept under wraps, sources say that the subversive feature takes its cues from the current political climate in America and aggressive nature of right versus the left, taking it to a more extreme and violent level.
Lindelof, Cuse, and Zobel previously worked together on Lindelof’s HBO drama The Leftovers. Cuse began as a writer’s assistant on the show and later graduated to story editor and writer. Zobel directed several episodes of the show. Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse alongside Lindelof, who will produce via his White Rabbit banner. Cuse and Zobel will executive produce.
Stories tapping into the current political climate have proven to be very lucrative for the studio. Last year Universal and Blumhouse teamed on the Best Picture-nominated Get Out, a thriller that drew from American race relations. And the two previously tackled class warfare with The Purge franchise.
Lindelof’s feature writing credits include the zombie apocalypse movie World War Z and the Alien prequel Prometheus. He is represented by CAA. Zobel, who directed episodes of Westworld and American Gods is repped by CAA. Cuse is repped by WME.
