There’s plenty of dance news in the television world today.
Jennifer Lopez is set to take her experience as a judge on American Idol and apply it to the forthcoming reality competition series WORLD OF DANCE.
Lopez is also the executive producer of the show which was greenlit in July with a 10-episode order. She will produce the show under her Nuyorican Productions banner alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio.
World of Dance is an unparalleled dance competition which will feature solo artists competing against duos and crews in all genres of dance, including hip hop, krumping, popping, locking, tap, ballet, break dancing, ballroom, clogging, stomping and more. The winner will receive a grand prize of $1 million.
Lopez currently stars on Shades of Blue which is entering its second season.
She is repped by CAA.
Jennifer Beals is developing her own dance series with High School Musical maestro Kenny Ortega and Hit the Floor‘s James Larosa. The Fox series is called THE EDGE and is set in the L.A. dance world where some of the most ambitious — and ruthless — women and men who have trained their whole lives to be the best won’t let anything get in their way.
Larosa will write the series and executive produce with Beals and Ortega. Annie Burgstede and Joanna Colbert co-executive produce.
Beals is no stranger to the dance world, having starred in Flashdance, one of the most iconic dance films from the ’80s. She can be seen next in NBC’s adaptation of Taken.
She is repped by APA and Red Management.
