The film, based on the non-fiction novel The Esperanza Fire, written by John Maclean, documents the 2006 California wildfires, whose death and destruction resulted in arsonist Raymond Lee Oyler suffering the death penalty. The was written by Sean O’Keefe.

Mickle has undoubtedly proven himself a more than capable director, as he’s consistently helmed critically acclaimed independent features. Aside from his abilities as a director, Mickle has held positions in every arena of filmmaking over his career. Most notably, he directed, wrote, and edited the incredible horror/drama Stake Land, the cannibalistic drama We Are What We Are and the crime/thriller Cold In July, starring Michael C. Hall.
