American Horror Story got eerily close to the subject in their first season, but now The Coalition Group is developing a film about the actual Los Feliz (pronounced “Los Fee-lez”) Murder Mansion with writer Joshua Malkin. Malkin will be adapting his script from a Medium.com article by Jeff Maysh. Luisa Iskin and John Wunder are producing for The Coaliton Group. The house in east Hollywood was made famous when a man killed his wife and then poisoned himself after trying to kill his children.
Dr. Harold Perelson, a successful neurologist, walked into his bedroom at 4:30 am on December 6th, 1959 while his wife Lillian slept, and shattered her skull with a ball-peen hammer. He then moved to his eldest daughter’s room and tried to do the same to her, but missed, allowing the daughter to scream and alert her siblings. The younger Perelson children were awake, but frozen in fear, so while the wounded oldest daughter escaped to get the neighbors, Harold tried to convince the remaining children that everything happening was a dream while the right side of his body was dripping with blood. After calling the police, neighbor Marshall Ross climbed into the second story of the house to try and rescue the children; Harold told him, “Go home.” Harold then pulled out several medicine bottles and killed himself with a mixture of Nembutal and 31 pills of what was probably codeine.
