Hough will play the titular character, a one-hit wonder who peaked at 18, who now tries to guide her talented niece, Jordan, through the music industry and keep her from making the same mistakes she made.
Songwriter Diane Warren is executive producing the potential series along with Hough. Lesley Wake Webster is writing and serving as a co-executive producer and David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are also EPs.
Hough previously starred as Sandy in Fox’s massively successful live rendition of Grease and her film credits also include Footloose and Nicholas Sparks adaptation Safe Haven. She rose to fame as a dancer on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Hough is represented by WME and Alchemy Entertainment.
This development season, Fox is also working on retirement home comedy Cool Kids, Indian-American comedy Model Minorities and an untitled father-son sitcom from Morgan Murphy. On the drama side, they are developing two projects with Empire showrunner Ilene Chaiken, comic book adaptation Snow Blind, a female-led 24 reboot framed as a legal drama and Off Site, an adventure drama from Len Wiseman.
