As reboots and remakes continue to drive trends for younger audiences, Nickelodeon has announced it will revive the classic game show LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE as a TV movie. These announcements come ahead of Viacom’s upfront panels on Wednesday.
Isabela Monae is set to star in the scripted movie based on the game show where pairs of adolescents competed for a chance to race through a mysterious Mayan temple. In addition to Legends, Nick will also be bringing back Hey, Arnold!, the long running animated series, in two-part TV movie.
Legends and Hey, Arnold! continue the nostalgic trend at the company. Paramount and Nick previously announced a film bringing together various 90s cartoon characters including Rugrats and Ahh! Real Monsters. The project is titled Nicktoons and will be directed by Jared Hess and written by him and his wife Jerusha Hess.
Nick is also adding “happy reality” programs, such as All In, an adventure docu-series hosted by Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, and Crashletes, a series featuring crazy viral sports. The goal is to leave the negativity prevalent in reality programming behind and focus on depicting people having fun.
