Animation veterans Abbi Jacobson (BoJack Horseman), Eric Andre (American Dad!) and Nat Faxon (Family Guy) will voice the leads in Netflix’s DISENCHANTMENT, a new animated series from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, the Tracking Board has learned.
Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of the adult fantasy comedy series, which will whisk viewers away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they’ll follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean (Jacobson), her feisty elf companion Elfo (Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Andre). Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.
Rough Draft Studios (Futurama) is handling the animation for Disenchantment, which will also feature the voices of John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.
“Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” Groening said in a statement.
“Matt Groening’s brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn’t be happier to work with him on Disenchantment,” said Cindy Holland of Netflix. “The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it’s a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans.”
The ULULU Company is producing Disenchantment, which will premiere on Netflix in ten-episode increments starting next year. Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein will serve as executive producers on the series.
