After a brief appearance in Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Michelle Monaghan is set to reprise her role as Julia Meade in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed the casting on his Instagram account.
Monaghan first appeared in Mission: Impossible III where her character Julia married Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Her death was faked in order to keep her safe from Ethan’s dangerous career choice and she was last seen at the end of Ghost Protocol, exchanging a silent acknowledgment with Ethan before departing. Her survival is still a well-kept secret in the universe.
It’s unclear what the extent of her role will be and whether or not fans will be treated to a proper reunion between the couple, but now seems a ripe time to finally progress (perhaps even conclude) their story.
The next installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise is set for release next summer and sees the return of several familiar cast members including Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Sean Harris, and Alec Baldwin, as well as newcomers like Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby.
Monaghan most recently appeared in this year’s remake of Sleepless alongside Jamie Foxx and will next be seen in the Saint Judy and Sidney Hall. She’s repped by ICM and Circle of Confusion.
