Spectre director Sam Mendes has boarded BEAUTIFUL RUINS, the adaptation of the book of the same name, as a producer and potential director. The project hails from Fox 2000 and was previously in development at Cross Creek Pictures with Todd Field set to write and direct.
The story is set in 1962 and revolves around an almost-love affair that begins on the Italian coast and is rekindled in Hollywood fifty years later. The narrative intertwines with Elizabeth Taylor and her love affair with Richard Burton.
Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue are adapting the novel which was published in 2012 and became an international best seller.
In addition to Spectre, Mendes also directed the James Bond film Skyfall and is attached to direct and produce The Voyeur’s Motel. He was also an executive producer on the recently ended Showtime series Penny Dreadful and is an executive producer on the upcoming The Hollow Crown.
He is repped by CAA and The Agency in the UK.
