Columbia Pictures has tapped Evan Susser and Van Robichaux to write the hybrid movie version of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. The Tracking Board broke exclusive news of the project back in March, and for the past couple months we’ve been anxiously waiting to see who will pen the script!
Robichaux and Susser are co-creators of the comedy talk show “What’s Going On?” with Mike Mitchell, and alumni of the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade. They’re currently working on “The Jetsons” screenplay, along with the documentary “Chewie,” a comedic look at the making of Star Wars through the eyes of actor Peter Mayhew.
Reports indicate that Dr. Eggman will feature as the prominent villain in the script, and that it will have a darker, edgier tone amidst elements of live action and animation. Now that writers have been picked, it seems even more certain the project is gaining traction, and I personally can’t wait to see what they do with the classic video-game hero!
Neal Mortiz and Toby Ascher are still on to proudce, along with Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi of Marza Animation Planet, a division of the Sega Sammy Group. Hannah Minghella and Andrea Giannetti will be overseeing for Columbia, and have stated their own excitement about bringing the internationally loved video-game character to life.
Stay glued to the Tracking Board for more updates on “Sonic” as we were the first to bring you the news back in March, and will continue to knock down doors to bring you the latest news!
