Filmmaker Spike Lee has successfully made the transition into television with his Netflix comedy series She’s Gotta Have It, which has now been renewed for a second season by Netflix. Lee and the show’s star DeWanda Wise announced the renewal of the series based on Lee’s 1986 indie film on Instagram yesterday.
Wise plays Nola Darling, a Brooklynite in her late 20s, who struggles to balance her time between her job, friends and lovers. Lee created, produced and directed all ten episodes of the first season, which was released over the Thanksgiving weekend last year.
Lee’s first foray into series television, She’s Gotta Have it also stars Greer Childs, Lyriq Bent, Anthony Ramos, Heather Headley, Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne and Elise Hudson. Barry Michael Cooper and Lynn Nottage are also producers on the show, while Tonya Lewis Lee is an EP.
